We've been talking Super Bowl ads all morning. And while a handful of spots were charming, delightful, and/or surprising, a lot of them felt uninspired. With all the teaser ads and early releases coming out during the past few weeks, maybe the element of surprise just wasn't there this year. This year's ads didn't carry the same urgency they usually do. But even that doesn't account for the ads that were just flat out bad. Did you hate these ads as much as we did?
Invisible Mindy — Nationwide
Why we hated it: Nationwide nabbed not one, but two HUGE celebrities for this spot. Mindy Kaling's talent felt squandered in this role — being the major comedic force that she is. Not to mention, this is the same brand that made us all sob during the half-time show. Maybe we should get our brand identity in line before we take on the Super Bowl. How about that Nationwide?
Fable — Mercedes-Benz
Why we hated it: You've got a hot new car. You've got millions of dollars to spend on a Super Bowl spot. You've got a crack team of creatives. And you come up with a slightly altered version of the tortoise and the hare? Talk about a missed opportunity.
Surprise — Discover
Why we hated it: What do you hate more than talking to a customer service representative from your credit card company? Finding a goat in your apartment? Nope. Customer service rep convo is still worse.
Tackle It! — Jublia
Why we hated it: I totally expect ads like this when I'm streaming free video on Hulu or watching public access television. Do I expect it during the Super Bowl? I guess I do now...
Make Some Noise — Lexus
Why we hated it: No explanation necessary.
