Instagram: A Trove of Typography

As we have moved into the age of technology, sometimes it is nice to take a step back from the computer and appreciate some hand-generated artwork. So, my friends, I would like to introduce to you five lettering artists to follow on Instagram. Go explore and be inspired!

@Efdot

Shows a variety of unique styles, from whimsical slender pen work to large-scale chalk murals, this place really showcases it all. Every now and then it will feature a chalk piece being created, really giving an insight into how a piece comes into being.

@Itsaliving

Simple and clean. @itsalivng is able to take a single word and make it come alive. It also shows how any writing tool can be used to create an amazing piece of type, even something as trivial as a highlighter.

@Mateuszwitczakdesigns

A wonderful combination of tradition with a flair of modern-day chic. Mateusz Witczak’s design style looks as if it could have lived in the Victorian ages with the beautiful hand flourishes and elegant serifs; however, these designs still pack a punch.

@Seblester

If I had to pick a favorite to follow, it would definitely be this feed. I mean, as cool as it is to look at photos of lettering, it’s even more mindblowing to watch a video of it being created. Well done!

@Youbringfire

Keeping mostly with a bold script, @youbringfire connects letters and words to manipulate type, creating amazing compositions large and small. After following him for a couple of years now, it has been super interesting to watch his work evolve from sketch to skateboard deck designs. The coolest part about following him is, every now and then he gives tips and pointers on how to create your own type, whether it’s starting a sketch or creating the vector image.

And if you’re looking to explore more than one artist at a time, mosy on over to @friendsoftype and @calligritype to see which artist they are showcasing today!
