1. How long have you been at HZ?
I have been at HZ for about 7 months; I started in June.
2. Is there a design trend you really love (or hate)?
I really like when designers use negative space to their advantage. I think it shows a well-thought-out creative process and really makes the audience think about what they’re viewing.
3. What other designers inspire you?
James Victore and Stefan Sagmeister… I love how they both incorporate photography into their work along with super dramatic typography. Both designers also create work alluding to the political climate and human rights, which I find really inspiring.
Victore has his own YouTube channel where he talked about the lessons he’s learned throughout his career, which I have found helpful, being new to the workforce… give it a listen. (https://www.youtube.com/user/JamesVictore)
4. What would your absolute dream client (or industry) be?
A fashion house or design label. I enjoy bringing handmade elements into my work and think this type of client would be perfect for that.
5. Tell us a bit about your design—what influenced some of your decisions?
Like most designers at HZ, I have a love for all things caffeine. I kept the colors monochromatic (but still bold) to juxtapose the more intricate illustration on the bag and kept the typography simple to allow the color to pop more.
